Scheltens & Abbenes is formed by a still-life photographer, Maurice Scheltens (1972), and a visual artist, Liesbeth Abbenes (1970) – also making wall tapestries – living and working in Amsterdam.
The specialty of Scheltens & Abbenes is to arrange objects into configurations that have a strong two-dimensional or graphic character forming an entirely new object altogether. A recent development in Scheltens & Abbenes’ practice is their movement towards the world of design making projects with Droog Design, the couple Scholten & Baijings and the manufacturer Vitra.
Maurice Scheltens and Liesbeth Abbenes created commissioned photographs for cultural institutions (Galliera Musee de la Mode Paris, Foam Amsterdam, The Art Institute of Chicago..) and high-end companies (Chanel, Hermès, Valentino, Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Viktor & Rolf, Roger Vivier, Paco Rabanne..) and stories for international magazines (Fantastic Man, The Gentlewoman, Wallpaper, Another, The Plant Journal..). Scheltens & Abbenes won a ICP Infinity Award, in New York.
